Hyderabad, September 9th, 2026: Eminent Hyderabad-based civil and structural engineer Er. Ponnada Surya Prakash, FIE, CE, PE, has been conferred with the prestigious FEIAP Engineer of the Year Award 2026 and the Honorary Fellowship of FEIAP. The awards were presented during the 34th General Assembly of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Hosted at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, the assembly brought together 500 delegates representing 28 member economies across the Asia-Pacific region. Er. Surya Prakash, who serves as a Council Member of The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI], was nominated for this international distinction by IEI—a full Member Economy of FEIAP since 2008. The award recognizes his nearly four decades of exemplary engineering practice, professional leadership, technological innovation, and capacity-building.
Accepting the award during his address at the gala dinner, Er. Ponnada Surya Prakash said, “To receive the ‘Engineer of the Year 2026 – Asia Pacific’ and the Honorary Fellowship of FEIAP from this august body, representing engineers from 28 nations, is not just a personal honour – it is a moment of pride for my country India, for my mother institution The Institution of Engineers (India) – IEI, and for my small village Razole in Konaseema District, Andhra Pradesh. Whatever I am today is because IEI taught me that engineering is not just about building structures, but about building the nation. I dedicate this honour to the Young Engineers of Asia and Pacific. The challenges before us – Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Rural Transformation – need us to work together, beyond borders.”
A Legacy of Engineering Excellence:
Academic Credentials: Graduate in Civil Engineering from JNTU Kakinada and M.S. in Structural Engineering from IIT Madras.
Entrepreneurship & Mentorship: Founder of SatyaVani Projects and Consultants Pvt. Ltd. (est. 1994) and Smart Infr-EST, a trust dedicated to boosting employability and professional capability in civil engineering. He has mentored over 10,000 engineers.
Leadership Roles: Past President of ACCE(I), Chairman of the Telangana State Centre of the Indian Buildings Congress, Founding President of PSI, and Former Chairman of the Civil Engineering Division Board of IEI.
Major Impact: Served on expert committees reviewing major public projects valued at approximately ₹1 lakh crore and assessed earthquake-damaged structures. His engineering footprint spans residential, commercial, industrial, metro rail, stadium, and bridge developments.
Innovation: Author of notable books on communication towers and construction SOPs. Developed the award-winning CABFADD software (ACCE-CDC Best Software Award 2007).
Er. Surya Prakash joins an elite group of past Indian laureates nominated by IEI, including Lt Gen (Retd) B. S. Dhaliwal (2011), Mr. Pradeep Chaturvedi (2013), Mr. Sanjay Prabhakar Londhe (2014), and Prof. Dr. Raghupatruni Bhima Rao (2024).
